ALBUM RELEASE
Album Release explores my format of still life imagery, often featuring subtle moments that stand out to me in a city environment. In collecting the images with similar compositions, a sort of language emerges. The image archive becomes a repository of language properties- the words, alphabets, and glyphs. With language, the translations and transliterations can add to the experience of using it. Aspects present in one, may not be in another. Something that exists in the original language may not exist in the target language or vice versa. Digital files contain metadata, which gives general information about the file, like the type or dimensions. Images within my archive give similar context to one another, without telling the viewer directly what the subject of the photo may be. For me, there is crossover between image and music. This is seen even in wording like the groupings being an album, or a sequence as a stream. The accumulation and storage of my photos is much like a music library where you could click shuffle or scroll with a random stop for an unexpected experience. Though digital images donβt have physical texture as-is, they have potential to regain form. This can be achieved by considering the surface. The photo can be mounted, projected, 3D printed, or even CNC routed. Giving new form to a flattened object, makes a photographer a sculptor. Their choices in display give new context for the captured object, and bring it back to the physical realm, as something remade.
